First of all, I hope you and your princess are well. I was so glad to see your comment <3

Secondly, I have no idea what kind of lens you are using, so it is a bit hard to give any advice but in general, the key to getting a greater bokeh (i.e. out of focus background) is to shoot on aperture priority, and get the lens open up as wide as it can (1.4 for example is just perfect for bokehs). Generally, though, this applies for prime lenses. See, if you've got a zoom lens, you should zoom in as much as you can, and then the bokeh really depends on your zoom rather than anything else (distance between object and background is a key factor as well, but you certainly know that).

I really hope all of this makes sense, since I am usually the one in front of the camera, not behind it, and definitely not the greatest expert.
